"Old English Mastiff"

Has the name been officially trademarked?

I find this an important question, as there are those who would use this name, if possible, for designer breeds.

The American Mastiff has become a distortion of our original club's intention, and I fear that the Old English Mastiff may follow a similar fate, if not protected in advance!

Any help, or information would be greatly appreciated in this regard.

Hi Steve
I guess the best way to get an answer is to contact our KC who own all breed standards in the UK. So one presumes the breed of dog is included.
The correct name for the breed in the UK is 'Mastiff' as shown on our website. I will be surprised if owners in the UK spring into action.
However I have e-mailed the KC to ask if the name is 'trademarked' copy righted or whatever.
Are copyright laws the same in both countries?

Not sure if same rules apply under trademark laws. Upon further investigation, we should have clear answers in coming days.

I might add, if needed, trademarks should not be held in the name of any single individual. The domain should be transferred to respective parent clubs, in order to safeguard the names from future hijackers!
